WHO OKs emergency use of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine

China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine has become the sixth vaccine globally to receive WHO validation

In a significant development in the ongoing fight against Coronavirus, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Friday approved the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by China's Sinopharm for emergency use. With this decision, the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine has become the sixth vaccine to receive WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality.

"WHO gave Emergency Use Listing to Sinopharm Beijing’s COVID-19 vaccine, making it the sixth vaccine to receive WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality," the WHO said in a tweet.

Taking to Twitter, Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus encouraged countries with the most vaccines to donate doses to other nations in need through the COVAX facility.

"WHO urges governments to offer incentives to manufacturers to share technology & know-how. And we encourage countries with the most vaccines to donate doses through COVAX, which is the fastest & most equitable way to increase the distribution of vaccines globally," he tweeted.
