UAE sends plane full of aid and food to Ethiopia

The United Arab Emirates has extended a hand towards Ethiopia to help those in need of support by sending an aid plane containing 46 metric tons of food and medical supplies to Ethiopia.

This after trouble grew in the Tigray region and that led to disruption of lifestyle in the area. Hence the UAE leadership decided to come out in support of the Ethiopian people. This was further confirmed by Mohamed Salem Al Rashedi, UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia, who said, “The UAE has a strong relationship with Ethiopia, and this assistance is part of the directives of the UAE's wise leadership to provide humanitarian and development assistance to brotherly and friendly peoples."

This is in line with the UAE’s efforts to support the humanitarian and developmental situations in the suffering country and especially the Tigray region. The aid will also help people fight the coronavirus pandemic, assured Al Rashedi.

Apart from this Rashedi also assured the UAE’s commitment towards helping different communities of the world. He said that commitment extends to emergency relief to the countries that are in desperate need of help and support. The UAE will continue to counter humanitarian crises and help the communities fight the Covid-19 battle, he added.

A total of AED 18.3 million was pledged by the UAE, which will be used to support the displaced community in the Ethiopian region. It is the border between Sudan and Ethiopia and the trouble between the two countries has led to after getting worse.

It sent nearly 300 metric tonnes of relief supplies in coordination with the International Humanitarian City in Dubai and its international partners. The activity was executed with the cooperation of the World Food Programme and other international organizations.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the UAE has provided 18.5 metric tons of medical supplies to support the country combat coronavirus. Other than this, the UAE leadership also extended its help towards the efforts by WFP by transporting a field hospital for treating infected patients from Norway to Ethiopia.
