UAE's daily COVID-19 cases decline below 2,000 for first time in 2022

The UAE is witnessing a significant decline in daily new COVID-19 cases in recent days. For the first time this year, the UAE Saturday recorded daily new COVID-19 cases below 2,000 at 1,991.

Furthermore, 1,149 people recovered from the virus during the same period.

Since the first COVID-19 infection in the UAE in January 2020, the authorities have reported a total of 855,642 infections, 2,262 deaths and 783,119 recoveries (till Saturday).

Earlier on December 28, COVID-19 infections fell below 2,000 after 1,846 new cases were reported by the authorities.

The UAE started seeing a rise in new cases at the end of 2021 and into January 2022. The cases rose from 48 on December 6 to 3,116 on January 15.

According to experts, the new cases have been detected as a result of additional 488,153 COVID-19 PCR tests conducted by the health sector to curb the spread of the virus. Overall, more than 127.5 million tests have been conducted since the onset of the pandemic crisis in the country.

Currently, UAE authorities are ensuring all possible measures including mass screening, robust nationwide vaccine drive as part of its recovery strategy.

Since the vaccination campaign was launched in December 2020, UAE health sector has administered more than 23.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the public. Reportedly, approximately 94.5 percent of the total eligible population is now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the authorities have called on all eligible community members to receive a booster dose to strengthen the fight against the pandemic crisis.
