UAE: RAK schools offer free COVID-19 PCR tests to students

International schools in Ras Al Khaimah are going to conduct free PCR tests for students in the clinic on their premises. Efforts are being taken under the new “Swab On Us, Attendance On You" initiative to safeguard students in schools and curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the emirate.

Ras Al Khaimah schools have collaborated with healthcare authorities to create awareness among parents about COVID-19 testing in educational institutions. As per a report by Emarat Al Youm newspaper, text messages have been sent to parents, informing them that their wards aged 12 or above can take the free PCR test at their school clinic by showing their Emirates ID. Students are required to take the PCR test 72 hours before their on-campus classes in schools.

The initiative has been launched by Emirati authorities to encourage students and parents to embrace the hybrid mode of learning as well as reduce their burden of travelling to faraway testing centres. With this initiative, schools are also ensuring compliance with precautionary measures against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, officials at private schools have underlined that students would be permitted to attend the on-campus classes only when they present a negative PCR result. Schools are also following additional precautions such as regular body temperature checks and social distancing measures with the aim of keeping students safe on the premises.
