The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) launched the second phase of a vaccination programme for Syrian refugees in Jordan to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and Honorary Chairwoman of the ERC, ordered the move, which is being carried out in coordination with the UAE's embassy in Amman, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, the ERC and the Jordanian Ministry of Health. It is followed up by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, Chairman of ERC.

As part of the second phase the COVID-19 Sinopharm vaccination will be given to 12,000 refugees in the Emirati-Jordanian camps of Mrajeeb Al Fhood, Zaatari, Al Azraq, and Al Hadiqa. The initiative, according to Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, is part of the UAE's efforts in the worldwide fight against COVID-19, particularly in countries that have been badly impacted by the epidemic, to help them survive the crisis and speed up the recovery process.

He said further, "The programme is implemented under an Emirati-Jordanian partnership represented by the Emirates Red Crescent, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi and the Jordanian Ministry of Health, and in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees."

Thousands of Syrian refugees were given the first dosage of the vaccination by the ERC three weeks ago, in the presence of Jordanian officials, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, and the UAE Embassy in Amman, as well as representatives from Jordanian international humanitarian organizations.
