UAE: Health ministry to issue birth certificates via WhatsApp

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced the issuance of birth certificates of newborns to UAE residents via WhatsApp.

According to an announcement made by the MoHAP, the WhatsApp service will be used to respond to enquiries posted by customers. WhatsApp will use artificial intelligence through a virtual assistant to communicate with customers and respond to their queries.

With the help of the new service, customers will also be able to receive birth certificates of their newborns via WhatsApp following which they will not be required to physically visit a MoHAP customer service centre.

Taking to Instagram, the ministry posted a video, explaining how the service works.

“Our smart services are a click away, and will soon be available via WhatsApp,” the ministry said.

The ministry further noted that the new service has been launched as part of its celebration of the UAE Innovation Month. It has also affirmed that the service will be end-to-end encrypted within an authenticated WhatsApp account to ensure the “highest levels of security and reliability” of the data and information of customers.

Speaking in this regard, Samir Al Khoury, director of the IT Department, MoHAP, noted that the interactive WhatsApp chat will employ artificial intelligence to address the questions and enquiries posted by customers regarding any service.

Abdullah Ahli, acting assistant undersecretary for the Support Services Sector, stressed that the ministry has been ensuring various measures to keep pace with the latest technological developments by adopting artificial intelligence techniques and employing smart predictive methods to analyse data and digitise government work.

It will further enhance customer experience related to the services of the UAE government authorities.
