UAE govt urges eligible residents to take COVID-19 booster dose

The UAE government has called on all eligible community members to receive their COVID-19 vaccine booster dose on time to enhance protection against the disease. During a media briefing on the latest Coronavirus development in the country, UAE health experts noted that vaccines have proven effective in preventing infection and limiting complications from the disease. Furthermore, it has helped in minimising hospitalisations, duration in hospitals, ventilators requirements among vaccinated groups as compared to the unvaccinated group.

The UAE authorities announced the administration of booster doses across regions as it has helped in significantly enhancing immunity and reducing the number of infections in the country in recent weeks.

The booster dose is taken at least 3-6 months after receiving both basic doses of vaccination. It strengthens the immune system to reach increased levels of protection against the virus.

"We recommend that individuals who are eligible for the booster dose be sure to take it on time," health experts said during the briefing.

It is important to note that this year the seasonal flu season is coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Authorities have raised awareness about the flu season, noting that symptoms of both diseases are quite similar.

Experts have urged on community members to take seasonal influenza vaccination as it has proved to be the most effective and safe method in preventing infection.

"We also remind you of the importance of initiating the COVID-19 vaccination and that the recommended interval between influenza vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination is two weeks. We encourage individuals to go to health centers and take the seasonal influenza vaccine to provide protection against common viruses," experts added.

The experts highlighted the importance of the vaccine for most vulnerable groups, including the elderly, people with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children, especially under 5 years old.
