UAE, French Foreign Ministers share views on boosting diplomatic ties & COVID-19 counter measures

Abdullah bin Zayed, French counterpart discuss regional developments, COVID-19 counter measures

UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, recently held a telephonic conversation with France's Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian during when they discussed the strategic diplomatic ties between the two countries.

During the phone call, Sheikh Abdullah and Le Drian discussed the prospects of cooperation between the UAE and France across various fields and latest regional developments. They also shared views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest including Syria, Libya and ideas on boosting security in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Significantly, the two ministers emphasised the need for supporting the efforts to politically solve the Libyan crisis, noting the importance of finding a solution to achieve security and stability in Libya. Sheikh Abdullah and Le Drian went on to highlight their support towards the Egyptian Initiative to end the crisis. They further rejected the interference by Turkey which can pose threats to the efforts of the international community to reach a political solution.

Amid a global fight against COVID-19, the two ministers also exchanged their views on the latest developments in the efforts against the pandemic and steps taken by both the UAE and France in controlling its impact.

In the phone call, UAE's Sheikh Abdullah detailed about the strategic relations between the two friendly countries as supported by their leadership and their keenness on boosting other aspects of cooperation across other domains.

The UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation further wished safety and prosperity to the people of France. He went on to praise the precautionary measures and procedures taken by the French administration in containing the impact of COVID-19.
