UAE allows emergency registration of Pfizer's COVID vaccine

In line with the ongoing efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced the emergency registration for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID -19. The step has been taken as part of the UAE's integrated and comprehensive efforts aimed at mitigating the impact of the pandemic and ensuring public health and safety with the support of the country's healthcare system.

The UAE leadership took the decision in response to a request made by Pfizer to allow emergency registration of the COVID-19 vaccine. It will help the concerned health authorities to effectively import adequate supplies of the vaccine after fulfilling all international standards and guidelines necessary for ensuring safe and orderly shipping of the vaccine. This development has come after the review conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the safety and efficacy of Pfizer's COVID-19 after it passed the necessary clinical trials.

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Policy & Licensing, also highlighted that the authorities approved the emergency registration for the vaccine after Pfizer submitted all documents in compliance with the UAE's requirements and systems in place as well as in accordance with international standards of safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
