Stranded Dubai residents with expired visas have a six-month visa extension

Presently, only residents from six countries are allowed to travel back to the UAE.

Flydubai stated that individuals from six countries are eligible for the extension, referencing a decision by Dubai's immigration authority. The airlines further clarified that Dubai residents who are stranded abroad due to flight restrictions will have their residence visas extended by six months.

The airline said the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs gave the extension to people from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Uganda.

Presently, only residents from those countries are allowed to travel back to the UAE.

Individuals from the specified countries will be allowed back into the UAE on their extended residence visa until November 10, provided that their original visa expired after April 10.

The immigration department confirmed the announcement, adding that it is open to all residents with the condition that their residency visa was not cancelled at the request of the sponsor.

Additionally, Flydubai stated that GDRFA-Dubai will extend residency visas and their expiry date will become (9/11/2021).

Furthermore, upon the return of stranded residents with expired visas, the system will give them a period of 30 days from the date of entry to change their status and renew their visas.

Travel restrictions were eased in August as stranded UAE residents stuck in countries on the red list were allowed to return. Despite a rush to return in recent weeks, many thousands remain abroad due to flight delays and Covid-19 related issues.
