Sky Cargo becomes first airlines in the world to transport over 50 million Covid-19 doses

The United Arab Emirates airline's Sky cargo’ has touched new heights as it becomes the first airline in the world to transport over 50 million Covid-19 doses along with more than 100 tonnes of syringes across the world.

This is in preparation for World Health Day which is celebrated on April 7 every year. The UAE had already announced towards the end of last year that it will be transporting the vaccine doses all around the world and in this initiative, the Emirates Sky Cargo has been taking charge.

Since the announcement, the cargo has reportedly transported over 220 tonnes of Covid-19 vaccines which is in a sense equivalent to more than 50 million doses. More than 150 flights have been used in the process and the whole procedure involves manufacturing locations to over 50 destinations.

The carrier is responsible for transporting six different kinds of vaccines in the fight against covid-19. "Emirates SkyCargo is proud to have reached the 50 million COVID-19 vaccine delivery milestone just ahead of World Health Day,” said Nabil Sultan, who is the Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President.

The Senior Vice-President also promised the cargo’s commitment towards helping the communities across the world, especially the ones who are a part of the developing nations, to overcome the crisis caused by the ongoing pandemic. Sky Cargo has been committed to providing these services for the last year.

“We have been leading the global air cargo industry's efforts and working with our partner organizations in Dubai to rapidly distribute COVID-19 vaccines through Dubai to the rest of the world," Sultan added. He also emphasized how the cargo service is leading the industry with its efforts and working along with its partner organizations in Dubai to accelerate the distribution process of vaccines.

The Emirates Sky Cargo airlines have been very active and dynamic while promoting the importance of the Covid-19 pandemic and it also has been maintaining international connectivity so that each vulnerable community gets access to the proper healthcare services. The carrier was also one of the first ones to deploy passenger aircraft for cargo-only purposes given the seriousness of the situation.

Since the outbreak, the cargo has operated more than 27,800 flights and transported over 100,000 tonnes of essential commodities. To facilitate the distribution of vaccines, Sky Cargo has set up a European Union GDP-certified dedicated airside hub in Dubai. A lot of factors were responsible for cargo’s market growth. The top ones were its ability to store large consignments and sophisticated infrastructure.

Earlier this year, the cargo joined hands with leading Dubai-based entities-- DP world. Other than that the DP world, International Humanitarian City, and Dubai Airports also came together to help the cargo service by forming Dubai Vaccine Logistics Alliance.

The network of the cargo service extends to 130 countries across six continents. It falls favorable for the Sky Cargo as its fleet of modern and efficient, all wide-body aircraft, promising geographical location, has contributed to secure and rapid global distribution of the vaccines against covid-19.
