Sharjah: Men will be using women’s prayer halls for Friday

The officials of Sharjah, men will now be using women’s prayer halls at large mosques from their Friday prayers. The call will be implemented from March 27 in the emirate.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, even though the mosques have reopened in the emirates, the prayer halls of women have been advised to remain close. With this decision, the authorities aim at ensuring that rush is avoided during Friday prayers.

The department of Islamic Affairs announced through their social media handle that with this step congestion will be reduced in mosques and make it easier for people to offer Friday prayers amid the ongoing Covid-19 ongoing pandemic.

Last year, during the same time, Mosques were closed down owing to the coronavirus pandemic. It was the time when the virus spread was peaking. The mosques were only opened in July after following all the guidelines that would ensure the safety of people and the authorities.

Even after the reopening of mosques, Friday prayers remained suspended and only were announced to be resumed on December 4.

The announcement was made on Monday on Sharjah TV by the head of Islamic Affairs Abdullah bin Yarouf Al Sabousi owing to Covid-19 safety guidelines. Given the month of Ramadan, Al Sabousi also said that 40 more mosques will open in the coming days after 25 mosques had already been opened ahead of the holy festival.

As for the coronavirus situation in the United Arab Emirates, the officials have announced reopening certain facilities while keeping these safety guidelines in mind. The country has made Covid-19 testing compulsory in many places.

Nearly seven million covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country. There are currently four covid-19 vaccines approved by the country. Apart from Sinopharm, Pfizer/BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca, and Sputnik, which is manufactured by Russia. All the services related to the vaccination program in the UAE are free of charge.
