Officials discuss to re-open educational institutions by Sept

Education and Human Resources Council, chaired by Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, briefed on possibility of resuming study across general educational institutions in September with restrictions

The Education and Human Resources Council (EHRC) met and discussed the Education Ministry’s plan on re-opening of schools, universities and other educational institutions across the country. The meeting was chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

At the meeting, the Minister of Education Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi shared that the ministry is exploring to re-open education institutions by September. All plans are, however, dependent on the assessment of the current COVID-19 situation. All precautionary measures and guidelines recommended by the health officials would also be taken into account.

The minister assured that containing the virus and health and safety of students remains the topmost priority. Institutions will be opened only after exploring all options and planning.

To ensure the safety of students, teachers, and other staff, thorough sanitization of institutions will first occur. The ministry is to implement guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) to secure and sanitize transportation modes. All safety measures will be as per best practices and as per WHO recommendations.

The EHRC appreciated the Education Ministry’s emphasis on safety and precaution. The Council also praised different boards, teaching, and support staff, which switched to an online learning program due to the COVID outbreak. The Council also thanked the cooperation and efforts taken by parents, guardians, and students to embrace distance learning.

The Council underlined that e-learning could be successfully conducted as all actors involved have a great sense of national duty and responsibility.
