Mohap Ncema Announce Face Mask Not Mandatory In Certain Places

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) on Wednesday announced that wearing a face mask is not mandatory in certain places while maintaining safe physical distance of at least two metres.

According a statement issued by the two entities, the decision has been taken in view of a significant decline in the number of COVID-19 infections observed across the country. The development reflects the UAE's successful efforts to strengthen the scope of mass testing that facilitated early detection of cases as well as ensuring the availability of multiple vaccines. At the same time, cooperation and commitment shown by the community towards precautionary and preventive measures boosted the national fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the new decision, wearing of face masks will no longer be obligatory during exercising in public places, travelling in private vehicles for people living in the same house, visiting open beaches and swimming pools. In addition, face masks are not mandatory for people who are alone in closed spaces as well as at salons and beauty centres while availing facial and haircut services. People are not required to wear face masks at medical centres and clinics while accessing diagnostic and treatment services.

It is important for local authorities to put signs around relevant regions raising awareness about the places where it is allowed to "not wear a face mask". The signs will also create awareness about the need to adhere to physical distancing of two meters and other precautionary measures.

In the statement, MoHAP and NCEMA have also underlined the importance of wearing wearing a face mask in those places where it continues to be obligatory.

"Studies confirmed that the face mask was one of the most important means to stop the spread of the virus," the two authorities highlighted.

People failing to comply with precautionary measures and wearing face masks in those places where it is mandatory will be fined for violating the norms. In this regard, the two entities have called on all community members to follow preventive and precautionary measures issued by relevant authorities with the aim of enhancing the health and safety of all community members.
