Kidney failure patients in Dubai will now be able to receive treatment in the comfort of their homes. NMC Healthcare has launched its home dialysis services in Dubai as well as the Northern Emirates through its subsidiary ProVita.

With the new facility, patients will not be required to go to a hospital for treatment of their ailment. It will allow patients to carry on with their usual work schedules and jobs without investing hours for treatment sessions at dialysis centres. The company has already been offering home dialysis services in Abu Dhabi for the past two years.

Clancey Po, president of operations at NMC Healthcare, noted that there have been a lot of enquiries for home dialysis services in Dubai. The official added that the service will not only help patients but also their family members by saving time and effort without the need for hospital visits.

“We continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary COVID-19 measures are in place to allow home care services to be delivered by our professional staff,” said Michael Davis, chief executive officer of NMC Healthcare.

Speaking about the cost of home dialysis, Po added that most of the patients in the UAE are insured. While the costs of dialysis care are high, it helps in increased life expectancy.

"We are providing some comfort by enabling patients to be treated within the comfort of their home, rather than adding travelling and lengthy waiting times, which is an additional cost and unnecessary burden," Po affirmed.

He stated that patients are going three to four times a week to hospitals to get their dialysis done. It takes more time for people aged 70 years due to the support of additional family members. This wastes a lot of time and cost for patients.

"We are installing the same hospital machines at the home of the patient. And this machine is only for that individual patient,” he added.

Within the first year, NMC Healthcare has seen more than 100 availing the new home dialysis service in Dubai.
