Dubai issues COVID-19 safety rules New Year's Eve celebrations

Dubai's Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management has issued safety measures for New Year's Eve celebrations, mandating wearing of face masks for everyone participating in the events, be it indoors or outdoors. Any violation of the safety protocols will be penalised with a Dh3,000 fine.

The decision has been taken by the Committee after a meeting on Tuesday and thorough review of the festive preparations across the city. Following the meeting and review, the Committee approved necessary preventive measures and guidelines for holiday celebrations.

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairperson of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, also called on all members of the community to stringently comply with the preventive guidelines, including wearing face masks and observing social distancing, to protect their families and others against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that strict measures will remain in place as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and wellbeing of the public.

Dubai authorities have underlined that public compliance with safety measures during holiday celebrations is the key to maintaining the city's success in containing the impact of the pandemic.

Sheikh Mansoor affirmed that Dubai authorities have been continuously monitoring local and global developments to implement decisive actions significant to protect the community. The authorities are ensuring the implementation of precautionary measures outlined by local and international health entities to combat the pandemic.

"The concerted efforts of frontline authorities and the integrated plan to curb the pandemic - combined with the cooperation of the public - has enabled Dubai to curb the spread of the virus," he added.

Meanwhile, people can watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Dubai from 29 locations. It gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the celebrations in a safe, secure and socially distanced environment.
