Dubai Economy fines 12 businesses, warns five for flouting COVID-19 precautionary norms

Continuing its field inspection tours across Dubai, the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in Dubai Economy on Tuesday fined 12 commercial establishments for violating COVID-19 precautionary norms. These 12 commercial establishments included a number of retail outlets in various shopping centres, embroidery and sewing shops, and fitness centres in Al Hebiah Second, Wadi Al Safa 7, and Al Rashidiya.

Fitness centres were inspected in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council. During the inspections, the Dubai Economy fined these establishments over lack of necessary measures to ensure physical distancing and lack of employee commitment towards wearing face masks. In addition, five other establishments received warnings from the CCCP for not putting up the physical distancing stickers as mandated by the authorities.

The CCCP sector in Dubai Economy has been carrying out regular inspections as part of their continuous efforts to ensure that businesses adhere to necessary precautionary measures and guidelines aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 in the emirate. During Tuesday's inspection, it was found that 767 shops and commercial establishments were fully complying with the precautionary protocols aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

Under the directives of the UAE leadership, Dubai is gradually returning to normal and safe economic activities. Dubai Economy has urged people to cooperate and contribute to the national efforts to combat the pandemic and to maintain the emirate’s achievements against COVID-19 so far despite several challenges posed by the crisis across the world. Dubai Economy has further reminded the businesses that any violation or abuse of precautionary measures, either detected by authorities or reported by consumers and the public, will be met with strict action.

People can report any non-adherence to the COVID-19 precautionary protocols through the Dubai Consumer app on Google, Apple, and Huawei stores or by calling at 600545555, or by visiting the Consumerrights.ae website.
