Dubai allows extra-curricular activities in schools from Jan 31

Dubai authorities have allowed academic institutions to resume physical education lessons, school trips, and other extracurricular activities with effect from January 31. According to a directive issued by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) on January 28, the new rules also apply to early childhood centres and universities in the Emirate.

Taking to Twitter, Dubai's private education regulator thanked parents, educators and students for their consistent support and cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 which helped in a rapid resumption of PE lessons, trips and extra-curricular activities in schools and other academic institutions.

The education regulator further noted that canteens and eating areas can also reopen in educational institutions, including private schools, early childhood centres and universities in Dubai.

Notably, these activities in educational institutions were suspended at the start of the academic term in view of the COVID-19 pandemic as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of infections.

Meanwhile, education authorities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are ensuring a phased return of pupils to public schools across the country. The authorities are also ensuring all measures to vaccinate eligible pupils against COVID-19 to ensure a safe return to in-person classes in schools and universities.
