COVID-19: UAE government to conduct media briefing every two weeks

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Official Spokesperson of the UAE Health Sector, recently announced that media briefing of the UAE government will now take place every two weeks, in view of the present pandemic situation and decreasing COVID-19 cases in the country.

She added that concerned authorities are continuously working towards achieving sustainable development of the healthcare sector through the implementation of strategic policies and standards related to the public health sector and preventive services. Authorities are drafting necessary legislation to regulate and monitor the development of the national health sector amid ongoing efforts to recover from the pandemic crisis.

She affirmed that the UAE continue to adopt a professional approach to counter new infections and curb the spread of the pandemic. Furthermore, an appropriate action plan was established during the pandemic which emerged to be highly successful among other global models against the crisis. The UAE health sector also conducted intensive medical tests and enhanced awareness about the importance of following the safety measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Al Hosani further stressed that the UAE’s health sector has been administering COVID-19 vaccines free of charge to eligible community segments. So far, the UAE has vaccinated 100 percent of the population with at least the first dose of the vaccine while 95.21 percent of them are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

"Vaccines are crucial to ending the pandemic, and providing them is an international scientific achievement," she added.

She also urged all eligible individuals to visit their nearest vaccination centre and take the vaccine as well as booster dose if appropriate. People can contact health authorities for more information and to make an appointment for the vaccination.

Al Hosani lauded the vision of the UAE's leadership towards the success of the country against the pandemic crisis. In addition, relevant sectors showed significant cooperation with the health sector to analyse local and international situations and implement immediate and effective responses.

In conclusion, the official called on the community members to continue compliance with all safety measures and support the national efforts to protect the health and wellbeing against COVID-19. Al Hosani urged people to commit to preventive measures, such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing and regularly sanitising to limit the spread of the virus.
