COVID-19 recovery: Sharjah to ease capacity limits in social events

Sharjah has announced gradual lifting of capacity limits for all public events and activities in accordance with the national efforts to ease COVID-19 restrictions.

Sharjah's Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team affirmed that all sectors are covered in the new directive. As part of the new protocols, shopping centres, restaurants and cafes, places of worship and modes of transport in the emirate will be able to resume operations at full capacity.

Furthermore, maximum capacity will be permitted at various social events, including weddings and funerals in the emirate.

The authorities have also reduced social distancing requirements at mosques and other places of worship to one metre.

Meanwhile, the Sharjah government has called on all members of the community to continue following safety rules to enhance protection against the virus.

The crisis management team added that any violations will be handled with fines or penalties.

“Authorities will deal with anyone who violates the stipulated preventive and precautionary measures,” the crisis management team said.

Ras Al Khaimah lifts capacity limits

The Ras Al Khaimah government has also eased capacity limits in shopping centres, entertainment facilities and public transport.

According to the emirate's emergency, crisis and disaster management team, social events including weddings and funerals are allowed to operate with maximum capacity.

Worshippers at mosques and other places of worship have been urged to maintain social distancing of at least one metre.

Last week, Dr Saif Al Dhaheri, official spokesman for the UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, had announced that event venues across the country would be permitted to operate at full occupancy by mid-February.

He further noted that individual emirates would be setting capacity limits for weddings and funerals in line with the pandemic situation in the region. Community members have been urged to abide by green pass rules specific to their emirates.

Earlier this week, UAE authorities allowed cinemas to operate at 100 percent capacity, in compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.

The UAE Football Association had also announced that stadiums no longer have to limit the number of spectators during matches and other sporting events.

While the capacity has been increased to 100 percent, people aged 12 and above are allowed to enter the stadium after displaying green status on their Al Hosn app.

In addition, spectators are also mandated to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken in the past 96 hours.
