Covid-19 protocols for weddings, funerals and other social events announced by UAE

 In accordance to regulations regarding Covid-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) have announced protocol for various social events. The protocol is with objective to ensure the maximum standards of preventive and precautionary measures as recommended by health bodies in the Emirate while organizing family events like weddings. The number of people attending wedding events has been limited to first degree relatives of the two sides of families, and it must not exceed 10 people.

The government organizations have asked the attendees of events to get Covid-19 tests 24 hours before the event. Furthermore, single use cups and vessels must be used. The facilities and surfaces must be disinfected constantly. Buffet is prohibited at events.

MoHAP and NCEMA have urged the public to adhere to the regulations strictly when attending the social gatherings. They further added that authorities would be monitoring the events to check violators who would be fined.

The protocols include social distancing following, maintaining distance of at least 2 metres between people, assessing of symptoms, avoiding attending event in case of experiencing any respiratory symptoms or fever, putting up an isolation room for suspected cases, washing hands and urging elders and people with chronic diseases to not attend.

Furthermore, protocols have also been set up for funerals and prayer meetings for deceased. They include wearing masks by workers in cemeteries, tools disinfecting before and after the burial, washing hands and in case of lack of water use disinfectants with at least 60%-80% alcohol. People attending funerals must not be over 10. Workers must disclose of any respiratory symptoms. Awareness posters for Covid-19 must be displayed at gates to educate the people. Furthermore, no more than 2 people can be responsible for digging. Supervisors from authorities will be attending the ceremony to look for proper following of all regulations and that there are no violations.
