Abu Dhabi residents get green flag to start registering to get Covid-19 vaccine jab

On Wednesday, UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) approved for Abu Dhabi residents to start registering to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccine will be administered in two doses and will be given 21 days apart.

Residents can call the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) call center (80050) to book an appointment to get vaccinated at primary healthcare centers and clinics managed by it. Residents can call the SEHA center and provide their Emirates ID details. After that the call center executive will then book vaccination appointment at a primary healthcare center or clinic. After the announcement, customer service center witnessed a huge influx of calls on Wednesday. The MoHAP said that the vaccine, which is developed by China’s Sinopharm, is 86% effective and 100% effective in preventing moderate and severe cases of coronavirus infection.

In September, the vaccine had received an emergency use authorization (EUA) and since then has been administered to the UAE frontline health workers, leaders, ministers and health officials. The Ministry’s authorization “leads the way to comprehensively protecting the population and responsibly opening the economy”.

Emirate had also announced volunteer registration for Phase 3 clinical trials of the Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V. Currently, 500 volunteers from Abu Dhabi can participate in the trial phase. These developments come as the Abu Dhabi government has announced resuming “all economic, tourism, cultural and entertainment activities in the emirate within two weeks”.
