The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis, and Disasters Committee has approved a pilot test of new scanners to identify possible COVID-19 cases in certain places around the emirate, as part of efforts to improve public health and safety by utilizing cutting-edge technology. With no modifications to existing processes, the state-of-the-art scanners supplement existing preventive measures. The technique screens (without recording) from a distance, delivers instant results, and is useful for mass screening, such as at public entrances.

The scanners will be utilized at access points to the emirate, the entrance to certain public areas on Yas Island, and at selected entry and departure points in the Musaffah region during the pilot period. A person is allowed to enter if the scanner determines that they are not contaminated. If a person is identified as potentially contaminated by the scanner, they must take a free PCR test within 24 hours.
