A new video series has been released that explores behind-the-scenes stories of how schools in Dubai came together during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The documentary film features parents, students, teachers and government officials, and offers rare insights into different responses of various members of the community during the pandemic outbreak. It highlights how they all came together ensuring continuity of children’s education.
Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), said, "Our education community has been through a lot in a short time. We made this documentary to give an opportunity for teachers, leaders, parents and students to tell their stories, and to acknowledge the commitment that members of Dubai’s educational community have shown to ensuring everyone’s wellbeing as well as to safeguarding the sector. This documentary gives us the space to reflect on an event that has undoubtedly brought us closer and made us stronger."
The documentary is 20-minute long and includes events beginning from the time of reporting of first cases of COVID-19 and countries around the world began going into lockdown.
Through testimonies from teachers, parents and students, the documentary reflects how private schools in Dubai at first transitioned to distance learning. Team members from KHDA also look back at the way Dubai residents and businesses supported each other during early pandemic. At that time, KHDA received over 2,000 e-mails and phone calls, and more than 12,000 messages on social media.
As the schools transitioned from one academic year to another, the film underlines perspective from behind-the-scenes on how health and safety protocols were developed for schools in coordination with other Dubai government teams.
The documentary concludes with a look at how the pandemic has transformed expectations around education in Dubai, and also how the future of education in Dubai might unfold.
