11 years of Dubai Metro: Hamdan bin Mohammed chairs Executive Council meeting

On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of Dubai Metro, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council chaired a meeting of the Executive Council at The Expo Metro Station on Wednesday, The meeting also marked the celebration of the launch of Dubai Metro Route 2020.

Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan asserted that the Dubai Metro is a quality addition to the infrastructure of the city. He further stated that the Dubai Metro presents a model of fulfilling the requirements of urban growth of the city while promoting its urban aspects.

Sheikh Hamdan noted that the metro project is in line with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop Dubai as an international city and a hub for a modern lifestyle. He affirmed that the metro is a significant route towards development and highlights the quality of life in cities.

"Eleven years ago, we launched Dubai Metro, which has been a witness on the distinctive development journey of the city, where the metro was a central piece of Dubai urban boom, that made Dubai a city on the move. Dubai Metro also highlights Dubai’s strategy in facing challenges through proactive practical solutions," Sheikh Hamdan said.

He added that with the inauguration of Route 2020, Dubai will lead towards a new phase of its journey as a model of sustainability and innovation for current and future generations. It will further reflect the progress Dubai has made in the transportation sector while keeping pace with its future aspirations.

"Our vision is clear and challenges won’t stop us from reaching our objectives," His Highness added.

During the meeting, officials also briefed Sheikh Hamdan about various ongoing and upcoming projects and programs, including the joint project between Dubai Municipality and Dubai Land, that aims to accumulate the data related to all land plots around the city and consolidate potential channels to better serve the customer.

Members also discussed the school reopening plan amid the COVID-19 pandemic as the new academic year began across all schools in the UAE earlier this month. Sheikh Hamdan also reviewed the precautionary protocols put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the students and school staff. Furthermore, the COVID-19 Command and Control Center updated the officials about public compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols and the progress made in the fight against the pandemic across the nation.
