WHO scientist advises against mixing COVID-19 vaccines

WHO official noted that there isn't enough data available to determine health impact of the trend

The World Health Organisation’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan has called on the public to avoid mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines from different manufacturers to prevent unknown health issues.

During an online briefing on Monday, the WHO scientist stated that it is a “dangerous trend” trend to mix two or more COVID-19 vaccines, noting that there is not enough data available about the health impact of the trend.

“It is a little bit of a dangerous trend here. We are in a data-free, evidence-free zone as far as to mix and match,” Soumya Swaminathan said.

She noted that it will be a chaotic situation across regions if citizens start to mix their vaccine doses.

“It will be a chaotic situation in countries if citizens start deciding when and who will be taking a second, a third, and a fourth dose," she added.
