UAE sends new shipment of COVID-19 vaccine doses to Sudan

The medical aid shipment will help the Sudanese health sector in containing the spread of COVID-19

The UAE recently sent an aid plane carrying 30,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Sudan with the aim of supporting the country's efforts to contain the pandemic.

The aid plane was received by Hamad Mohammed Humaid Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, and Federal Minister of Health Dr Omar Al-Najeeb at the Khartoum International Airport in the presence of other senior officials from the Ministry of Health and members of the UAE diplomatic mission.

Al Junaibi hailed the profound and historic ties between the UAE and Sudan as a result of which the Emirati leadership has always extended its support to Khartoum and the Sudanese community under all circumstances.

He added that with the new aid shipment, the UAE's aid to Sudan has increased to a total of 100 tonnes. This will boost the Sudanese health sector's efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amid the ongoing global battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE has provided more than 1,800 tonnes of medical supplies to 135 countries as part of its global humanitarian efforts. This aid has helped and supported more than 1.8 million healthcare workers across the world in the process.

Dr Al Najeeb thanked the UAE leadership for its continuous support for Sudan. He also expressed the Sudanese community's gratitude to the UAE government and Emirate community for providing necessary aid in times of crisis, particularly to the health sector. "Since February 2021, the UAE has dispatched many COVID-19 vaccine shipments, underscoring its keenness to support Sudan in containing the pandemic," the minister added.
