UAE, Russia foreign ministers discuss bilateral relations, COVID-19 response

Abdullah bin Zayed, Russian Foreign Minister discuss strategic relations, COVID-19 countermeasures

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, recently held a telephonic conversation with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, during when they reviewed strategic bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. Furthermore, the two ministers discussed various prospects of facilitating cooperation between the UAE and Russia across various fields.

Sheikh Abdullah and Sergey Lavrov further shared views on the latest developments going across both the countries along with national and international issues of common interest. These discussions also included the ongoing situation in Libya. During the telephonic conversation, Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's upstanding support to promote political stability in Libya.

In view of the developments, Sheikh Abdullah praised the efforts made by Egypt for the African country, highlighting that security of Libya is an integral part of the national security efforts made by Egypt and the Arab nation.

The two diplomats also reviewed the ongoing developments in the efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the two countries. Russian Foreign Minister emphasized the need for amplifying the exchange of expertise and knowledge between the two countries and accelerating advanced Coronavirus detection tests along with consistent support to international efforts in the development of a vaccine against the novel virus.

The UAE Foreign Affairs Minister hailed the increased cooperation between the two countries amid the Coronavirus pandemic crisis. He further lauded Russia's continuous support to the UAE's efforts in containing the repercussions of COVID-19. In addition, Sheikh Abdullah commended the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the Russia leadership in tackling the pandemic crisis, hoping for the welfare and prosperity of Russian citizens.
