UAE public's support boosts in government's COVID-19 strategy

Public trust and confidence in the UAE's COVID-19 recovery strategy has been strengthening as schools, offices and places of worship are gradually resuming their operations to boost return to normally.

According to Nasser Al Zaabi, a Ministry of Community Development spokesperson, noted that the safety measures implemented by the UAE government with the aim of combating the COVID-19 pandemic has received immense support and cooperation from the public. Furthermore, an extensive mass vaccination campaign emerged central in maintaining the public trust in government efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

During a weekly media briefing, Al Zaabi hailed the vital role played by the community in supporting the national efforts to tackle the pandemic repercussions.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized the importance of safeguarding the community’s health and safety to reach safe recovery for all members of the community,' he added.

Furthermore, a poll conducted by the ministry indicated a significant rise in confidence among respondents from 25 percent in April 2020 to 95 percent in August this year. Optimism on the UAE's COVID-19 response among those surveyed has also surged from 34 percent in April 2020 to 94 percent in August.

In addition, 79 percent of respondents extended support to full return of staff to offices, while 90 percent backed welcoming worshippers to mosques and 73 percent expressed willingness for children to return to in-person classrooms.

In recent months, the UAE has gradually reopened schools, business activities and places of worship in line with stringent COVID-19 safety measures. These efforts have been taken to facilitate post-pandemic economic recovery and facilitate return to normalcy in the country after months of disruption.

"UAE provided the vaccine via a national campaign targeting all age groups, making senior citizens and people of determination a priority," Al Zaabi noted.

Now, the authorities have extended the priority to school students to ensure their safe return to in-person learning.

The UAE has administered more than 19 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the public since the launch of its nationwide vaccination campaign. This indicates 90.8 percent of the UAE's population has received at least one dose and 79.63 percent have received both doses of the vaccine.

"The UAE is one of the first countries to recover from the pandemic by providing the necessary elements needed to return to normal life, the most important of which is the vaccine," Al Zaabi underlined.

With an increase in COVID-19 vaccination rates, daily infection numbers are also declining in the country in recent weeks.
