UAE becomes frontrunner in detecting Covid-19 with K-9 police dogs

UAE tops world countries in detecting Covid-19 with police dogs

UAE has hit a new achievement in its continuous efforts to curb the coronavirus infection spread and implement preventative and precautionary measures to ensure safety of the people. The use of police dogs has been successfully implemented across all the UAE airports as an additional measure to detect presumed Covid-19 cases. This makes UAE the first country in world to used this method into practical use which is still being studied and is under training level in other nations.

The protocol to use this techniques is unique by UAE as there is no direct contact between the dogs and people being tested as per the health precautionary measures standards. The practical use of this method has been ensured and backed up by required studies, meetings, brainstorming workshops and cooperation between various countries and experts. Theoretical studies were done regarding how to use dogs to detect Covid-19 suspected cases using their strong sense of smell. This very strength makes the use of dogs successful in police patrol, events, to secure malls and at other important and vital facilities.

Specialised teams have been distributed at UAE’s airports to supervise and navigate the monitoring and checking the collected samples from people’s armpits, who are arriving from other countries. The sample is then detected by dog within seconds to determine if the person is positive for Coronavirus or negative.

This is taken as an additional line of preventive measure taken at airports to enhance the safety of people of the UAE. This is being done as gradually international flights are resuming the operations to and from the country. UAE is consistently taking pioneering steps through use of latest technology, police dogs and rapid checks to ensure safety of all residents and citizens.
