Sharjah: Private schools to offer remote learning to some students

Sharjah Private Schools To Offer Remote Learning To Some Students

Private schools in Sharjah are offering online learning options to students with genuine reasons and unavoidable circumstances. According to a circular issued by Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) for parents across the Emirate, students opting for online learning are required to present a medical report, evidence of the circumstances, and other relevant documents in order to attend virtual classes.

Furthermore, the circular also cited three categories of students exempted from in-person learning. The three categories excused from in-person learning include elderly, patients with autoimmune disorders, and students who are currently not in the emirate due to travel reasons and restrictions due to COVID-19.

Speaking with the media, an SPEA official noted that the authority has designed ten requirements for comprehensive re-opening of schools in the Emirate with the aim of protecting students against COVID-19. Some of the requirements for school administration include 50 percent attendance before October 31, ensuring a safe distance between students and mandating wearing of face mask on school premises.

It is important that the number of students in the class must not exceed the permissible count before the pandemic. Furthermore, students must ensure a safe distance between each other. At the same time, number of students on buses can be raised to 100 percent. SPEA has launched the “Your Children are Safe” electronic platform to maintain the safety and wellbeing of all students. Schools have been asked to encourage parents to join the electronic platform.

While all school staff must be fully-vaccinated against COVID-19, parents are also urged to vaccinate their children aged 12 years and above.

In conclusion, the Authority has called on the education community to adhere to the amended guideline issued this week and provide necessary medical reports approved by a health authority for students as proof of health conditions.
