Ramadan 2022: UAE issues new protocols for Taraweeh prayers in mosques

The National Crisis, Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) Wednesday announced new safety protocols for Taraweeh prayers in mosques during the holy month of Ramadan which is expected to begin on April 2. According to the announcement made by the NCEMA, Taraweeh prayers will take place in mosques during Ramadan after two years of suspension in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the briefing, the NCEMA stated that Taraweeh prayers can take place in mosques and chapels during the holy month in accordance with the COVID-19 safety measures, including maintaining social distancing of 1 metre between worshippers.

The authorities added that during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, Tahajjud prayers will be held from midnight onwards at mosques across the UAE in compliance with safety guidelines.

The updated measures also allow women to pray in mosques during Ramadan while adhering to physical distance of one metre.

At the same time, the authorities reiterated the significance of enhancing caution and awareness in terms of self-protection amid the ongoing efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, the NCEMA announced safety protocols for iftar tests, allowing participants to set tents across the country for the first time since the onset of the pandemic in the country. People attending iftar tents are required to maintain at least one metre social distancing. Furthermore, iftar tents are allowed to be open two hours before the time of Iftar to prevent overcrowding and ensure public safety.

In addition, security guards or volunteers will be present to manage the entry and exit of people at the iftar tents. Posters will be set up at all iftar tent entrances and exits to ensure a smooth movement of visitors during the holy month of Ramadan.
