Pink Caravan ride postponed in UAE to curb COVID-19 spread

The Pink Caravan Ride has postponed the 11th edition of the ride this year in view of the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country. The Pink Caravan Ride is an annual breast cancer awareness initiative of UAE-based non-profit Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) to raise awareness about breast cancer.

While the pan-UAE horseback ride was scheduled to take place in February 2022, the organisation took the decision to postpone the rise as a precautionary measure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The move will not only ensure safety of citizens and residents, it will also help in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

In addition, the Higher Steering Committee of the ride has urged local communities to ensure conducting regular breast self-exams to strengthen the possibility of early detection. It also reiterated its commitment to continue measures to raise awareness about breast cancer with the help of special activities and events in the coming months.

Since its inception in 2011, the Pink Caravan Ride is being conducted every year across the seven emirates to raise awareness about breast cancer. The initiative also offers free medical screenings. The initiative sees the participation of more than 800 riders and ensures the provision of over 75,000 free breast cancer screenings.

Recently, the initiative launched a permanent mobile mammography clinic and fully-equipped breast cancer screening centres across various remote areas.
