Figo General Assembly Elections Lead To Remarkable Win For Uae Ema Obgyn

FIGO, the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a non-profit organisation responsible as voice of women’s health globally. Around 137 countries divided in to five different regions geographically come under the FIGO view. FIGO oversees women’s health in entirety and is a body at par with the World Health Organisation. It is responsible for all aspects of global women’s healthcare ranging from ethics to education and upliftment and encouragement of women.

 

Triennial General Assembly Elections of FIGO were held on Thursday October 28, 2021.

 

In a debut performance, the United Arab Emirates has secured two key positions in the General Assembly elections. The country is to play a crucial role in helping FIGO make important decisions in women’s healthcare.

 

Prof. Muna Tahlak, President Emirates Medical Association OBGYN, has been elected as the Trustee from Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region and will be a part of FIGO’s core trustees.

 

The United Arab Emirates and Emirates Medical Association (EMA) OBGYN was also elected as the Council Member of FIGO from Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region. This post will be represented by Dr. Amala Nazareth, EMA OBGYN Representative to FIGO.

 

Appointment of UAE OBGYNs at these two key positions at FIGO will help United Arab Emirates become a key decision maker and contributor to bolster global women’s healthcare for the next two years.
