Emirates to receive 1st COVID-19 vaccine shipment in mid-Dec

Dubai-based carrier Emirates Airlines is mobilising efforts to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine across the world. As per reports, Emirates Airlines Senior Vice President of Shipping, Nabil Sultan, has said that the carrier is in talks with over 12 pharmaceutical companies globally for the transportation of the Coronavirus vaccines. These companies include Pfizer, BioNTech and Moderna among others.

Reportedly, the first shipments of the vaccine are expected to arrive at the company's facilities in the UAE in mid-December. Therefore, the airline will be responsible for transporting and delivering the vaccine across various countries in cooperation and coordination with the manufacturers.

In a remote meeting with media, Nabil Sultan also noted that the carrier will be boosting the capacity of its fleet designated for air cargo operations in the coming months in a bid to meet the mammoth demand of vaccine delivery, particularly taking note of the beginning of the new year.

Drug manufacturers globally are working on developing a potential vaccine to combat the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected billions of people across the world. Recently, vaccine developed by US-based pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna reported 95 percent efficacy in preliminary results from late-stage trials.
