Abu Dhabi sets up drive-through COVID-19 vaccination centre

In line with the ongoing efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic in the UAE, Abu Dhabi authorities have set up a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination centre in MBZ City.

The centre has been established by Burjeel Medical City with the aim of providing vaccination-related services to all members of the community in accordance with the necessary procedure. From vital signs check-ups to administering the vaccine, the centre will provide vaccination service to the public within 20 minutes from the comfort of their cars.

As per reports, the centre has the capacity to accommodate up to 700 people in a single day, with the potential to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to about 60 people every hour.

The vaccination centre has been put in place with the goal of supporting the ongoing efforts to provide quick and easy access to COVID-19 vaccine to all members of the community, especially the elderly population and people with chronic diseases.

Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), visited the drive-in vaccination centre on Monday and reviewed the services being offered to the public.

During his visit, Al Hamed affirmed that ensuring the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine for all sections of the community, particularly the high-risk group, is a "crucial responsibility".

He hailed extraordinary efforts made by the UAE's public and private healthcare sector to ensure the availability of COVID-19 vaccines to all members of the community in a "seamless, safe, and innovative process" as a result of which the country was able to successfully administer more than 5 million vaccine doses.

He also praised the cooperation and support provided by various members of the community towards the vaccination drive in order to protect themselves and the public. He said that their contribution towards national response to the pandemic and putting an end to the spread of the virus has played a major role in safeguarding the health of UAE society.

"Abu Dhabi has thrived in positioning itself on an advanced international level in the daily vaccination uptake," Al Hamed added.

He affirmed that Abu Dhabi's success in administering the COVID-19 vaccine would not have been possible without the incredible team efforts of frontline professionals working in the field, extensive spread of vaccination centres and innovative ways of creating awareness among the vast majority of the community.

As of now, the VPS Healthcare Group has set up 19 COVID-19 vaccinations centres and four vaccinations tents across Abu Dhabi with the aim of administering the vaccines to the maximum number of people in the emirate.
