Abu Dhabi: Massive health and physical activity survey launched by Department of Community Development

Working towards motivating the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle, the Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi has launched its first sports and physical activity survey across the emirate.

The survey has been designed to encourage people to adopt an active lifestyle in the post-COVID-19 era. The survey is aimed to cover thousands of respondents above 15 years of age across Abu Dhabi. The survey respondents will be required to answer a five-minute questionnaire covering information about their lifestyle. This will gather data on the level of physical activity, and also provide active solutions for people who lack an active lifestyle.

The goal of this survey is to build a complete picture of sports and physical activity and encourage an active and responsible community which is in line with the DCD’s objectives.

A healthy lifestyle for everyone

Survey respondents can also share their perceptions of sports and their views on how to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for people in Abu Dhabi. Working by enhancing understanding of the habits and needs of people living in emirate’s communities, the survey will help government’s decisions to surpass the global average fitness levels and also meet the key targets in the WHO’s ‘Ten Lifestyle Goals for Healthy Living’.

How to participate?

Details on how to participate in the survey will be provided to relevant entities and groups by the DCD and also through social media channels and SMS to the general public. Elaborating on the survey, Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, executive director of the Strategic Affairs Office at DCD, said: “There are so many ways for people of all ages to engage with sport and physical activity in Abu Dhabi, from attending major global events like Formula 1 or the Mubadala World Tennis Championships to using our public fitness facilities and joining groups at a grass roots level”.

All are encouraged to participate

Working along with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and other government entities, non-profit organisations and the private sector, DCD’s Community Engagement and Sports Sector will help in using the research findings to plan and monitor the need and effectiveness of future interventions.
