Abu Dhabi is all set for events with apt social distancing

The successful hosting of the UFC Fight Island Triple Header in the Capital is the beginning of live sports events in Emirate, further highlighting Abu Dhabi’s capabilities of hosting visitors with all safety protocols in place. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) led the three-event martial art series which took place at the brand new Etihad Arena on Yas Island.


Fatima Al Baloushi, deputy director, events bureau at the DCT – Abu Dhabi, said, “The DCT – Abu Dhabi, by now, has mastered the ‘bubble’ concept.”


“Regular PCR testing, at 72-hour intervals, was conducted for the duration of the UFC event. A total of 12,652 PCR tests were done.,” she added.


48 hour quarantine was mandatory for all the UFC athletes, staff and event personnel along with double negative PCR result to enter the bubble. Additional testing followed thereafter. 

 

Al Baloushi noted that Abu Dhabi is on track to host additional events while following all health and safety protocols with full commitment. “Abu Dhabi boasts modern tourism, events and business infrastructure and a culture of true Arabian hospitality. Following the success of Fight Island, we have received proposals from numerous sports and events organisers to host their events. We look forward to announcing events that cater to the interests and preferences of all tourists and travellers,” she said.


“The fact that Abu Dhabi is able to welcome fans back to live events, when much of the world remains at a standstill, is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s readiness to host visitors with the highest standards of safety in place,” she continued.

 

Over 240 employees employed at Yas Island hotels have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine to ensure safety of capitals on reopening. The drive is in accordance to the already placed protocols across the Capital, including the Department-led ‘Go Safe’ certification, which enforces and is responsible for the global health and safety practices across the malls, hotels, hospitality facilities and public places.


The various measures boost and support aim and efforts of Abu Dhabi to curb the spread of Covid-19. “We are constantly monitoring the global situation and look forward to welcoming more visitors.”
